New Cozy Fantasy Romances

Cozy fantasy romances books against a backdrop of a misty forest

Lately, I’ve noticed something about my reading habits: when life feels loud or overwhelming, I don’t reach for epic battles or world-ending stakes. I reach for something softer. Something heartwarming: cozy fantasy romances.

There’s a different kind of magic in these stories. Not the kind that shakes kingdoms or rewrites destiny but the kind that lingers in candlelit kitchens, tucked-away bookshops, or small towns. Cozy fantasy romance feels like stepping into a world where nothing is urgent, but everything matters.

What I love most is the emotional safety. The romance unfolds slowly, gently. It’s built on trust, shared moments, and quiet understanding rather than chaos or heartbreak. These stories don’t drain you; they restore you. They remind you that love can be soft, magic can be kind, and endings can leave you lighter than when you began.

What Is Cozy Fantasy Romance?

Cozy fantasy romance, to me, is where enchantment meets emotional ease.

In this subgenre:

  • Magic exists, but it isn’t overwhelming or destructive
  • The stakes are personal rather than epic
  • Romance grows through connection, not conflict
  • The setting feels alive—like it’s charmed
  • The story leaves you comforted, not exhausted

It’s not about saving the world. It’s about finding your place in it and maybe finding love along the way.

And recently? This space is blooming with incredible new releases that feel like they were written exactly for readers craving softness, warmth, and just a touch of magic.

New Cozy Fantasy Romance Books to Fall Into

Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter by Heather Fawcett

Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter

A woman who runs a cat rescue in 1920s Montréal turns to a grouchy but charming magician to help save her shelter in this heartwarming cozy fantasy from the New York Times-bestselling author behind the Emily Wilde series.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up this book, but I was completely swept away. Agnes Aubert is delightfully type-A. Watching her world of meticulous schedules collide with Havelock’s chaotic, magical life was pure fun. The chemistry between them had me grinning and sighing in equal measure. And the mix of romance, magic, and cats was just the right blend of whimsical and heartwarming.

I loved how the story balanced humor with real stakes. I found myself rooting for both the shelter and the unlikely couple. By the end, I was left with a smile and a newfound appreciation for second chances, both for people and for cats.

A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping by Sangu Mandanna

isbn: 9780593439371,template: list, title: A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping

A whimsical novel about a witch who has a second chance to get her magical powers—and her life—back on track, from the national bestselling author of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches.

I absolutely adored this book! Sera Swan is such a delight—grumpy, witty, and just the right amount of messy. Her adventures at the enchanted inn kept me laughing and turning pages. Luke’s icy-but-softening presence added so much depth to the story.

I enjoyed the quirky guests, the talking fox, and the way the book made “found family” feel truly magical. I felt fully immersed in Sera’s world and was cheering for her every step of the way. This one left me swooning and already wanting more.

Thistlemarsh by Moorea Corrigan

isbn: 9780593819883,template: list, title: Thistlemarsh

Welcome to Thistlemarsh, a ramshackle estate where an impoverished orphan and a beguiling Faerie collide in an enchanting novel of love, revenge, and ruin.

I was completely swept away by this story! Thistlemarsh Hall is atmospheric and enchanting, and Mouse Dunne is such a relatable, determined heroine. The mysterious, arrogant Faerie kept me on edge and thoroughly intrigued. The magic, romance, and hidden family secrets made it impossible to put down. By the end, I was fully invested in Mouse’s journey and the fate of the manor, and I loved every twist and turn along the way.

This is the kind of book you read by a crackling fire (a virtual fireplace is perfectly acceptable) with a decadent dessert in hand—I’m thinking a velvety chocolate pie.

Bromantasy by Máire Roche

isbn: 9798217180707,template: list, title: Bromantasy

A cozy, queer fantasy about the mortifying ordeal of being known by your totally platonic best friend and the epic quest that might force you to confront the truth.

Juniper’s chaotic charm and Mo’s endless patience made for a hilarious, heartwarming duo, and their quest had me laughing and racing to the end.

The twist with the “monster” was both clever and touching, and I loved how the story balanced adventure, humor, and romance perfectly. I had so much fun reading this!

The Elsewhere Express by Samantha Sotto Yambao

“A delicately layered dream of a book that glimmers with the promise of hope after grief, The Elsewhere Express will carry you to the stars.” —Molly O’Neill, author of Greenteeth

When you lose your way in life, the Elsewhere Express just might find you. Step on board the train that may take you to your life’s purpose in this wistful, Ghibli-esque fantasy from the bestselling author of Water Moon.

I was completely enchanted by this book! The Elsewhere Express is a magical, whimsical ride, and Raya’s journey of grief, self-discovery, and wonder had me hooked from the first page. The stunningly imagined train cars, the mysterious stowaway, and the growing connection with Q made this a beautifully immersive, unforgettable read.

The Seven Miracles of Beatrix Holland by Rachael Herron

isbn: 9781538767320,template: list, title: The Seven Miracles of Beatrix Holland

This instant USA Today bestseller is an uplifting family story and the queer love-child of Practical Magic and The Parent Trap. One woman is about to discover that she’s a witch.

Beatrice’s journey from skeptical, overwhelmed woman to powerful witch was thrilling and full of suspense. Family secrets and magical intrigue abound in this story.

I appreciated how the story blended heart, humor, and a touch of dark magic.

Why This Subgenre Feels So Right, Right Now

There’s something about cozy fantasy romance that feels especially needed.

Maybe it’s because so much of the world feels uncertain, fast, and heavy. These books offer the opposite: steadiness, softness, and space to breathe.

They remind us that:

  • Not every story needs high stakes to matter
  • Love can be quiet and still deeply powerful
  • Magic doesn’t have to be dangerous to be meaningful
  • Home isn’t always a place—it’s something you build

For the Little Infinite reader, this is where everything aligns. Emotionally rich stories, immersive worlds, and romance that feels safe, real, and earned.
