Fall is a season of renewal, harvest and reaping the benefits of the work we’ve put in over the past few months. Summer has been busy. I know that I often feel tired even after eight hours of beauty sleep, which is why I thought that it was the perfect time to create this fall self-care guide. Cosmic energy shifts with the seasons. Even here in the South, we’ve already see the first signs of fall, including drier air and a few fallen leaves.

As the days cool down and the sun sets sooner, autumn invites us to slow down, step back and appreciate how far we’ve come. Embracing self-care right now isn’t just about comfort. Slowing down and giving your body and mind a moment of rest can help you regain the energy needed for your next phase of personal growth.

Self-Care Tips for Health and Well-Being

The crisp fall air creates the perfect backdrop to take your wellness routine outside before winter arrives. A brisk walk in the morning can invigorate your body and soul.

Shifting your environment helps break up monotony and grounds you in the present. As we already know, spending time in nature also reduces stress, which is bad for, like, everything.

  • Mindful Movement: Take advantage of the mild weather with an outdoor yoga flow, a quick Pilates routine on the balcony, an afternoon hike or a simple morning or evening stretch in the living room.
  • Mental Reset: Find a space outdoors where you can sit for a 10-minute meditation, or take your journal to a quiet seat in your backyard or in a local park. Writing outside often makes it easier to process your thoughts and release what’s on your mind.

In-Season Foods and Recipes

Whether you’re heading to the farmer’s market or local grocery store, fall brings an abundance of comforting, nutrient-dense produce. Incorporating seasonal fruits and root vegetables into your cooking provides the warmth and nourishment your body craves as the temperatures drop. One of my favorite resources is this handy guide from BBC Food for finding recipes based on what’s in season each month.

Meal Type Seasonal Recipe Ideas Key Ingredients
Salads Autumn Greens & Goat Cheese Salad Crisp apples, walnuts, goat cheese or blue cheese
Soups Roasted Butternut Squash Soup Winter squash, nutmeg, pumpkin seeds, honey
Veggies Indian Dal With Greens Red lentils, chard, spinach or arugula, cumin and spices
Entrees Pan-Roasted Chicken and Vegetables Chicken, turnips, parsnips, carrots, rutabaga, herbs
Treats Baked Pears or Apple Crisp Pears/apples, oats, cinnamon, maple syrup

Fall Wardrobe Refresh

Clearing space in your closet can be a rewarding self-care ritual. It can help you let go of unwanted or unused items as well as those pieces that cause angst or anxiety every time you open the door. Before pulling out your cold-weather gear and curating a fall capsule wardrobe, survey your closet. Donate items you no longer wear to a local charity or women’s shelter, or host a clothing swap with friends.

  • Color Palette: Lean into rich, grounding shades like aubergine, mossy green, umber, cream and burgundy.
  • Pieces for Layering: Bring out timeless staples like plaid or buffalo check flannel shirts, puffer vests, oversized chunky sweaters and edgy motorcycle jackets.
  • Cozy Extras: Don’t forget the small details that make you feel warm and cozy. Thick socks, flowy pashmina scarves and soft leg warmers are perfect for a day out or a relaxed evening at home.

Fall Journal Prompts for Self-Care

Set aside a few quiet moments in the morning or evening. Brew yourself a cup of coffee or herbal tea and sit with these reflective journal prompts:

  1. What major goal or personal milestone do I want to focus on next?
  2. What are five things, big or small, that I am grateful for right now?
  3. What’s one personal quality, such as patience, resilience or generosity, that I want to cultivate this season?

From myself and everyone at little infinite, we wish you a happy and fulfilling autumn season. Cheers to you and everything you have accomplished already this year!
