Ready for a Thrill-Ride Romance?

The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels
Reading Time: < 1 minute

I knew I was going to love The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels based on the “Table of Significant Characters” alone, which contained:

  • Cecilia Bassingthwaite: a plucky young lady
  • Patrick Morvath: a villainous poet
  • Assorted scoundrels
  • Various ruffians
  • Frederick Bassingthwaite: an earnest fellow
  • Teddy Luxe: a fencing master with provocative hips

India Holton, you had me at villainous poet.

Cecilia Bassingthwaite is from a long line of women pirates, members of the Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels, prone to theft, assassination, and vigorous debates about literature. So when she learns that a family friend has hired an assassin to do away with her, she doesn’t reach for her smelling salts; she’s thrilled. In pirate culture, when someone takes a hit out on you, you’ve arrived.

The assassin, who variously goes by Ned Lightbourne, Teddy Luxe, and Captain Smith, is inept, annoying, and arrogant. Although Cecilia is not a swooner, Ned/Teddy/Captain Smith is not without his charms, and she will become as reluctant to brain him as he is to do away with her.

Good news, future Wisteria Society fans – book two, The League of Gentlewomen Witches, releases Tuesday, March 15.
