Pen and paper. Yin and yang. Peanut butter and jelly. Love and poetry. Some things are destined to go effortlessly hand in hand.
True love feels like poetry. New love understands us like poetry and fading love can sting like poetry. But in any of its forms, love inspires and helps create poetry. Of course, there are countless collections of poetry exploring literature’s most discussed topic. But we have narrowed it down to our top three current faves that are sure to make your heart swoon!
Pillow Thoughts II: Healing the Heart by Courtney Peppernell
She has done it again! I’m sure you have all heard of Peppernell’s first book, Pillow Thoughts, by now (another highly recommended read). Pillow Thoughts II: Healing the Heart proves that Peppernell’s relatable and poignant prose will only ever improve with time. By breaking up the chapters based on stages of loving and healing, this best-selling author ensures there is absolutely a poem in there for every reader’s heart. Her talent for explaining love and heartache’s complexities in a simple, direct way makes each poem more powerful than the last. No matter where you may be on your loving and healing journey, this one is definitely a must-read!
Words Like Water by Kirsten Morgan
Our favorite part of Words Like Water? The delicate and brutally honest subject matter. Morgan’s debut collection categorizes her poetry into four chapters– Falling, Crashing, Rising and Growing, each a stage of what Morgan believes to be the lifecycle of love. And we’d have to agree! Page after page, each poem is so sincere that it feels as though it’s torn right out of her diary. Of course there are darker parts to love. But even after those poems, Morgan manages to leave her readers feeling hopeful and continuously reminds us that love is a journey that is always worth taking!
Love & Misadventure by Lang Leav
Love & Misadventure is a brilliant collection riddled with little poems that pack a big punch. World-renowned artist and poet, Lang Leav, has centered most of her life’s work on love and loss. Which explains how she so skillfully illustrates powerful experiences with love through quick, witty prose. This collection takes each reader through the ups and downs of a whirlwind love that ultimately leaves us all refreshed and confident that love will find us again, in one way or another. And if a certain someone came to mind as you read that last sentence, Love & Misadventure is absolutely for you!
