Joyful Poetry Prompts

3 minute read

Our dear friend, Joy, is not always the life of the party.

Sometimes she chooses to skip it entirely, prioritizing her peace over even the most lavish affairs. Joy knows how to see even the most mundane moments as works of art. That’s just her nature. Breathing in time and exhaling cherished memories. She is magnetic and mesmerizing just by being, and teaches everyone she meets to be the same. And when you truly get to know her, she’s with you always. Never leaving you lonely and weaving a glimmering thread of friendship throughout all you do and all you experience. Though joyful poetry prompts she may become visible. Her presence remains a touchstone to remind you of the times when your hearts were one.

Joy can be far more fleeting than we care for.

Taking time to mark the moments and seasons in which joy finds us can help ease the times when it’s nowhere to be found. It’s not just happiness. It’s a sensation of abundance, goodness, or as the American Psychological Association says, “exultation of the spirit arising from a sense of well-being or satisfaction”.

Remember the journal these times in your life with the joyful poetry prompts to help deepen your gratitude and assure you that joy truly is a friend of yours.

“If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don’t hesitate. Give in to it.” – Mary Oliver
