The Role of the Gen Z Movement in Corporate America

Shaking Up the Corporate Cubicle

The professional sphere is no longer what it once was. Previously, the thought of a ‘typical’ corporate job would conjure images of meticulous schedules, office cubicles, and the typical 9-5 in the minds of workers and TV characters alike.

For us, the new kids on the corporate block (Gen Z), the view from our side of the digital age is strikingly different. Here’s how we’re helping turn that age-old system on its head.

A Focus on Well-Being

unknown.jpgOne of the most significant changes Gen Zs have heralded is a relentless focus on mental health and overall well-being. The once taboo office topic has now found its voice, with more wellness programs and more candid conversations about mental health than ever before.

We might be connected 24/7, but we’re acutely aware of the perils of burnout. Whether it’s through enforcing digital detoxes or advocating for flexible schedules or following any of the other recommendations Cal Newport makes in his book “Slow Productivity: The Lost Art of Accomplishment Without Burnout,” we’re altering the conversation around overworking and the illusion of perpetual availability.

Another topic in the spotlight? The importance of diversity and inclusivity. Our workspaces now celebrate the myriad of backgrounds, beliefs, and lifestyles that often remained unacknowledged in corporate circles of yesteryear. Diverse voices lead to innovative solutions. We’re not shy about bringing this message to the table.

GenZ’s Future of Work: Cubicle Be Gone?

unknown.jpgWhat does this mean for the future of corporate America? The shift we’re spearheading is monumental, but it’s only the beginning. The future is not merely about adopting new workplace technologies or spouting off the lip service of diversity and inclusivity. It is about living and breathing these values in every fiber of our work culture (Karen Catlin’s “The Better Allies Way: A Workbook for Being More Inclusive at Work” is a great resource on this).

The narrative is changing. The cubicle, once synonymous with the corporate world, is now just one of its many faces.

It’s an exciting time to be part of the workforce, steering the corporate ship in a new, more inclusive direction. Through our actions, we’re laying the foundation for a workplace that respects the individual, upholds mental well-being, and thrives on diversity and innovation.

Whether you’re a Gen Z professional or belong to any other cohort, it’s time to shed the old skins of corporate culture and open up to the fresh air of change.

We’re not here to disrupt for the sake of it. We’re here to craft workplaces that mirror the society we aspire to be. It’s a tall order, but one I’m confident we’e more than capable of delivering.
