Mystical Romance Books That We Prefer Over Romantasies

Mystical Romance Books

Where Magic Meets Meaning

While romantasies may dominate some of the bestseller lists with their brooding fae princes and epic quests, mystical romances offer something deeper—intimacy wrapped in wonder. These stories don’t just sprinkle magic around a love story; they root romance in the spiritual, the strange, and the transcendent. Mystical romance books invite readers into lush, otherworldly settings where love doesn’t conquer kingdoms—it transforms souls. With atmospheric writing, symbolic elements, and a focus on emotional alchemy, mystical romances are less about action and more about awe.

Mystical and romance are such a great subgenre in this area, and it isn’t all fluff. Where enchantment is a part of every day life. We aren’t super strict about the categorization of mystical romance vs. romantic fantasy — because we do love them both– but we do understand that it can be a hot button issue for a lot of readers! And okay… maybe we like these specific books a little better.

Check out these mystical romance books and join the debate. Where do you stand on the issue?

The Crescent Moon Tearoom — Stacy Sivinski

NATIONAL BESTSELLER

I know we aren’t supposed to focus on this, but the cover of this book is absolutely precious! The first book in The Spellbound Sisters series is a debut novel starring three sisters, each of whom has a touch of clairvoyance and a host of other issues.

Ever since their parents died, Anne, Beatrix, and Violet Quigley have stayed afloat by interpreting the ginger, cloves, and leaves that lie at the bottoms of their customers’ teacups. It is a lovely existence, filled with gentle conversation and lovely fragrances like cinnamon, shortbread, and other cozy ingredients.

A surprise announcement by the Council of Witches threatens to upend the sisters’ quiet, harmonious balance. The City Diviner has lost her powers, and the different talents of all three sisters will be required to fix that problem.

For the first time, the Quigley girls are being pulled in different directions. Violet finds herself very enamored of a traveling circus, and maybe more-than-enamored by a handsome trapeze artist. Beatrix’s writing, which she has always preferred to keep private, catches the eye of an actual publisher. And Anne’s magical powers have developed to the point where she is rapidly becoming more powerful than her sisters. Could a fabled family curse that prophesies the separation of the sisters actually be taking effect?

The Quigley girls set out on a new type of adventure, and they don’t have a whole lot of time to figure out the rules. Can they save their town, their business, and each other?

If you are looking for a cozy read, look no further than Rewitched, starring the wonderfully named Belladonna Blackthorn.

Her 30th birthday is rapidly approaching, and Belle receives a terrifying summons from the leader of the local coven. She is finally being called to prove her worthiness as a witch, which isn’t a lot, because she really has not been practicing. With only days left to redeem herself,

Belle will need any help that she can get. The alternative is unthinkable: she’ll lose her powers forever!

A #1 LibraryReads pick!

Never before have I had such a strong urge to cross stitch a book cover! You don’t have to be a cottage core lover to absolutely fall in love with the gorgeous package for this sweet debut novel.

Kiela is the librarian of the Great Library of Alyssium, which means that she doesn’t have to deal with people too frequently. She lives a quiet life with her assistant, a magically sentient spider plant named Caz, and they spend their time hidden among the empire’s most precious spell books. But when a revolt leads to the library going up in flames, she and Caz save as many books as possible and run to a faraway island that just happens to be Kiela’s childhood home.

She hopes to lay low in the falling down cottage that her late parents left her while formulating a plan that doesn’t catch the attention of the empire. Instead, Kiela finds a run-down neglected town on the edge of collapse. The empire has been neglecting its citizens for years. And only Kiela can make it right, and she does so by opening a secret spell shop on the island.

If she’s found out, Kiela faces a death sentence. But as she falls more in love with the townspeople, particularly a handsome neighbor, she knows that it is time to trust someone besides a talking plant. This sweet story is sure to capture your heart from the start!

Old Flames and New Fortunes — Sarah Hogle

We’ve all dreamed of living in a magical small town, and Moonville, Ohio, is the perfect place for Romina Tempest to use her flower magic to help people manifest romantic love in their lives. When a potential new investor announces his upcoming nuptials, Romina jumps at the chance to show off her skills. But the exclusive event is couples only, which forces Romina to pull the ol’ Fake Boyfriend con with a messy coworker. Trevor seems perfect on paper, and certainly he fits the bill for an Acceptable Partner. But everything falls off the rails when she discovers that Trevor’s soon-to-be-stepbrother is none other than Alex, the boy who broke her heart in high school.

Instead of a misunderstanding solved in a matter of moments, things spiral into a weeklong fake dating scheme. But as things fake-escalate, she can’t deny that she and Alex still have a connection sparking between them. She’ll have to choose between her livelihood and her love life, and Romina has to decide what is worth the risk.

About the Author:

Author Sarah Hogle wants to live in a falling-down castle in a cursed forest! Until she can make it happen, she enjoys trashy television and spending time with her three kids and her husband. According to Sarah, Old Flames and New Fortunes combines a lot of her favorite things: …”floriography, magic, tight-knit small towns, local folklore, second chance romance, the cozy cottagecore aesthetic, and the fake-dating trope but with a twist.”

You can understand why Mystical Romance Books are my favorite subgenre, right? Cozy, with lots of bubbling teapots and steaming beakers, talking animals, psychic abilities, the possibilities are endless. And so is the possibility for spicy adult content, luckily!
