My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine is a “A bloody good read!”
My Roommate is a Vampire starts with Cassie Greenberg as a literally starving artist. She’s tried and tried to make a living selling her art, but it is a tough gig and she just can’t scrape up rent money. Cassie is about to be evicted, and when a desperate search for affordable new accommodations on Craigslist leads her to a definitely-too-good-to-be-true apartment in a stunning Chicago neighborhood, she leaps at the chance to rent the room. She knows there must be a catch, because only someone who is a total weirdo or has a huge secret would let a room at such a low rate. But since she is in dire straits, she decides to suck it up and just deal with whatever that catch turns out to be.
Her new roommate, Frederick J. Fitzwilliam, is both devastatingly handsome AND a total weirdo. He has odd, old-fashioned manners, speaks like he is the lead in a regency romance, and keeps bizarre hours. On the rare occasions that they cross paths, he asks about her day and has interesting perspectives about art. And of course…he looks great without a shirt on.
The catch turns out to be a big one. When Cassie finds bags of blood stashed in the apartment, Frederick has to come clean. He’s a vampire. Like an actual vampire. A gorgeous, charming vampire. And he has a plan and a proposition for her!
It’s always fun to hang with this roommate!
I’ll try to keep the puns to a minimum, but I am an absolute sucker for any book that involves vampires. I absolutely LOVED this super-fun, debut romance novel! The sexy roommates-to-romance plot has tons of building heat that really pays off in the end and there are also quirky secondary characters that readers will also fall in love with. The writing is SO witty! Cassie and Frederick leave notes for each other around the apartment that will have you laughing out loud. Lots of other people loved it, too – it’s a USA Today bestseller, one of Amazon’s Best Romances of September 2023, and one of Apple’s Best Books of September 2023. It also received starred reviews from both Booklist and Library Journal, so it looks like, after a post-Twilight slump, that vampires may be back!
